2022 Interior Design Color Trends

This is my favorite blog to write every year. It’s time to discuss the 2022 colors of the year! I love trying to guess what our favorite design brands deem as color trends for the year. To be honest, I am always a little off, but maybe I am just ahead of the trends… let’s go with that. This year I asked all of you on our Instagram what your predictions were. Results: rusts, greens, and light purple… you guys are good.

We are seeing a lot of green this year! The shades are calming and grounded, something we all may need a little bit of this year. I’m only going to showcase Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams, but here is a great COTY round up from AD. Graham and Brown wanted to remind us to Breathe and Restore. Dunn-Edwards went full on #cottagecore with an earthy tone, Art and Craft. Then Pantone revealed a carefree purple that has so many fun possibilities.

So let’s just jump into it and give you what you want, the inspiration pics.

Sherwin Williams, Evergreen Fog

Wow. I love this calming, muted green. It is so versatile. You have heard me say this before (and I will say it again in the future) colors can be neutrals, especially blues and greens. Sherwin Williams’ 2022 Color of the Year, Everygreen Fog is a great example of this.

From the Sherwin Williams site, “Evergreen Fog SW 9130 is a versatile and calming hue, a chameleon color of gorgeous green-meets-gray, with just a bit of blue. It's a simple but sophisticated wash of beautiful, organic color for spaces that crave a subtle yet stunning statement shade.”

SW also partnered with a couple really great designers and creators ( a few we have feature don our Mood Board Mondays, so you know we love them) to bring this color to life. Their designs are below and I love them all. Explore more partnerships on their site here.

Graham and Brown, Breathe and Restore

As you may know, Graham & Brown releases a Color of the Year and a wallpaper of the year. Technically, my love language is gift giving, but that is only because wallpaper isn’t an option.

Graham & Brown discuss why they chose their Restore wallpaper and Breathe color of the year on their blog,

Restore Wallpaper - “ Born from our reflection of the past years, Restore Midnight is designed with healing, rejuvenation, and reconnection with nature all in mind – Just a few of the things we will need for the year ahead. Juxtaposing the natural and manmade, this elegant design is reminiscent of a wild yet calming concrete jungle.”

Breathe paint color - “Breathe is a soothing mid blue, perfect for creating calm and peaceful spaces which is exactly what we all need for the year ahead. Dark enough to add color and depth but light enough to remain refreshing, this tranquil shade can be used almost anywhere in the home.”

Pantone, Very Peri

I love a good shade of purple, here is some proof in case we haven’t met yet. Very Peri is giving us a very modern purple tone that inspires so many possibilities. Pantone chose Very Peri because they believe it is a symbol of the global zeitgeist of the moment and the transition we are going through.

“As we move into a world of unprecedented change, the selection of Pantone 17-3938 Very Peri brings a novel perspective and vision of the trusted and beloved blue color family, encompassing the qualities of the blues, yet at the same time with its violet red undertone, … displays a spritely, joyous attitude and dynamic presence that encourages courageous creativity and imaginative expressions. - Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute. Benjamin Moore, October Mist

Benjamin Moore also decided to introduce a diverse and calming green as their 2022 color of the year, October Mist. This shade of sage can work its way into any room. I am personally loving the color block paint inspiration below. It reminds me of how I once painted a rental I had in my early 20s. Timeless.

Benjamin Moore wrote that October Mist allows room for creativity as it creates a canvas for other colors and your imagination. They also release a full 2022 palette to go along with their COTY, check out their site for their full list.

Dunn-Edwards, Art and Craft

Dunn-Edwards is a new company I am featuring in my color trends blog this year! I fell in love with this color, Art and Craft, but I also love that Dunn-Edwards came out front and said they were inspired by cottagecore vibes. This earthy tone really is an amazing backdrop to showcase handmade objects and works of art.

Art and Craft features the need for experimentation in handicrafts—the rethinking of design skills through a prism of technological development and upcycling to develop a new experimental style. An appreciation for nature brings with it a newfound desire to know where our products come from, and the processes used to make them.” more on this color via the Dunn-Edwards site.
